KO fell silent and slipped his arms tighter around Della.
She relaxed against him and ran her fingers over the rings he wore. Large silver designs domed above his knuckles creating skulls and letters wrapped three fingers on one hand and one on the other. Then her finger dropped to a smooth stone deep in purple surrounded by intricately carved metal detail. “Beautiful color.”
“Death.”
Della’s head snapped up. “Purple represents power.”
“Death is power. Power can be death.”
“I don’t quite understand.”
“Holding the decision of one’s life or death is power over them. Having that power can be a type of death for the holder and the pawn. The freedom of choice is taken away. No freedom, no life.” He looked at the ring. “This is a promise I made, even though that part of my life is dead.”
“But you still wear it.”
“A reminder of the power I have.”
Jewelz Baxter lives with her husband in Louisiana near their children and grandchildren. She values her family and loves supporting their grandchildren’s sports and hobbies.
Over the years Jewelz filled notebook after notebook with stories in her spare time. With her husband’s encouragement, she shared those stories and received positive responses from others; prompting her to follow her dream and take the plunge of publishing.
When not writing or spending time with family she can be found on a Harley exploring the backroads with her husband. Jewelz has her own bike but confirms there is nothing like being on the back seat wrapped around her man.
